A Saturday evening drive along Palisade’s Fruit and Wine Byway, windows down, “What’s Up” pulsing out against the heavy, late-summer monsoon air, a sack of fresh cherries on the console, a trail of pits behind us, marking our route, Mt. Garfield beckoning to be photographed, from yet another angle, every time we make a turn. My teenage daughter and I exchange no more than ten words along the way, but singing the lyrics as best we can, our bond amplifies tenfold.
