This poem, Ready, was written by my 15-year-old daughter, Amelia Bergen. She is my Guest Blogger today.
Sometimes I find myself
Wishing for more
I find myself marveling
Over photos
And songs
Wishing that my life was
Different
I remember when
I first realized
I was ready for my next life
I was ready to be
A polar bear, blending into my background
A golden retriever, playing fetch in the park
A shark, in infested waters
Or even another human
A different human with a different life
I woke up hoping
That I would die
And be born again
As someone
Or something else
That was not myself
I’m not sure what my next life will be like
But
I do not wish to end mine anymore
And I thank God
If there is a God
For that.
