Quick Question

Is anyone out there who never had trouble with spam comments now having to deal with them? That is all I am getting and it’s really annoying.

Also, I put up a new post a few days ago, got a few legitimate comments, and now the post is completely gone. At first I thought, “Well, maybe I didn’t really post it. Maybe I imagined it in my Reader.” But, the comments are there in my notifications.

Weird stuff. And it’s really turning me off from blogging. Any similar stories? Ideas?

Thanks, WordPress community!

I don’t have the spam comments problem, but almost every time I post, I get random hits from search engines with unknown search terms. I don’t get extra likes but it does up my views. However, I think it’s some sort of spam thing because it only happens when I post something new. I also get a bunch if follows by blank sites. I wish I knew how to stop it. If you learn anything, I’d love to know. Good luck!

Usually spam comments are sent automatically to spam for me. The ones that aren’t, which isn’t many, are easily identifiable as spam so I click “spam” and then they go to spam too. It should probably work the same way for you!

Most of my spam magically disappears without me ever seeing it, but sometimes things get through. I have my comments set up to only automatically approve comments from people who I have approved a comment by before…that way I don’t have to approve every comment by hand, but the spammy stuff doesn’t make it to the blog. As far as the disappearing post, I’m flummoxed. I don’t think I’ve ever had that one happen. 😦 I do hope this doesn’t discourage you from blogging though!

For me, I have one or two posts that seem to be spam magnets. I was tempted just to delete those two posts, so I didn’t have to deal with having to deal with the spam, but so far, I’ve just dealt with it. It did seem to ease significantly in the last week.

As for the disappearing post, that’s weird. I’ve never had that happen. Does it still show up in your list of posts on your dashboard? Or is it gone from there as well?

From an entirely selfish point of view, I really hope you don’t quit blogging. I would definitely miss your posts!

Deb, that is exactly the same for me! Two posts are getting all the spam. And one of them is such an important post to me – about Addy’s depression – that it just bothers me. But… and you’re right again… I think it has let up some. The missing post can be found in my dashboard as the unedited version. I will try to keep posting because I would miss all you wonderful people.

I saw that post in my email but said it didn’t exist when I hit the link(something like manicpumpkin or something???) Also in my askimat where it shows a graph of spam v/s ham, it says I get like 60 spam comments a month but I cant figure how to get to them. in the dashboard there are the regular “pending” but that is only one or two. In askimat it shows A LOT. Also I get like two new followers everyday but no views for them. Is WP just starting people off with blogs already following now? It seems these blogs are fairly established though……?
